Two journalists, Kathrin Braun and Achim Schmidt from Munich, Germany, come to Taiwan to conduct a series of interviews on the situation in the Taiwan Strait. What are the reactions and preparations of all walks of life in Taiwan with regard to the increasingly tense situation in the Taiwan Strait? This is a subject of great interest to them
Kathrin and Achim consider that the European audience does not know enough about Taiwan, especially the indigenous peoples in Taiwan. They believe that it is a good entry point for European countries and peoples to better understand Taiwan through the lens of indigenous peoples, especially in this era when China may launch a war of aggression against Taiwan.
Under his coordination and arrangement, Samuel, CEO of Academia Formosana, led the two German journalists to visit the General Assembly Office of the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan. Three aboriginal ministers serving in the General Assembly Office, namely, Rev. Sudu Tada, the Associate General Secretary of the General Assembly, Rev. Omi Wilang, the Secretary of Indigenous Ministry Committee (Church and Society Relations), and Rev. Rii Taljimaraw, the Secretary of Indigenous Ministry Committee (Education for Indigenous Peoples), come to receive the two reporters and the team of Academia Formosana. The staff of the General Assembly prepare slate BBQ, Mochi (sticky rice balls), and millet wine from Atayal Wulai Church for the guests, and Rev. Sudu Tada gives them aboriginal-style souvenirs as a present.
With Samuel’s intermediary translation, the three aboriginal pastors are interviewed by the two German journalists on the following issues.
- How does the Presbyterian Church in Taiwan (PCT) perceive the possible invasion of China? Generally speaking, what is the PCT’s attitude towards it?
